When Halloween rolls around, you can be sure that you will find kids in different costumes traversing the streets. And what better way to top off your Halloween costume than with one-of-a-kind Halloween face painting designs? A unique and creative face painting job can be instrumental in completing your look. It can either make or break your costume.
There are a variety of styles and techniques in face painting. The trick is to decide what type of look you want to achieve. Is it the scary, bloody look of a long dead zombie or the bare white-faced look of a scary female character? Or maybe you want to dress up as your favorite superhero – Spiderman and Batman are popular picks. Or you could always go for the glammed up look of a beautiful fairy. In choosing your Halloween face paint designs, bear in mind that it should always go together with your costume. Or else you will end looking out of sorts.
Witches have become synonymous with Halloween. According to old folk tales, Halloween symbolizes the beginning and the end of the year of the witches. It is supposed to be the best time to contact the “undead” because during this time, the barrier between the underworld and the earth is open. So it is no surprise that we see little witches running around during trick or treat. But how do we start painting? First, use a sponge to apply white paint all over the face. Avoid laying it on too thickly at one time or this will result in cracking later on. The trick here is to apply multiple coats if you want a thicker layer. After the white paint has dried, apply a layer of green paint. This will give you a more ghoulish and scary look. Next use a brush to outline the eyes, eyebrows and lips with black paint and color them in. Then you can add spiders, cobwebs or a wart or two on the nose or face to complete the look. Top it off with a black pointy hat and a long cape and you are good to go trick or treating.
However, if you want to be more grotesque and gruesome you can always go as the “undead” or Frankenstein. Here, you will need to add realistic scars and wounds. First, sponge your entire face with white paint followed with green. Green is an excellent color if you want to appear scarier looking. To create a fake scar or wound, use a medium sized brush and red paint to draw it on. Black can be used to draw on your stitches. Then just throw on raggedy looking clothes and you are good to go.
Another popular Halloween character is the ghost. You can create this look by painting your entire face white. The lips can be done in a pale blue color. Do not try shades like orange and red because they are considered “warm colors”. And when you are going as a ghost, you do not want to look alive. You would want to look dead. Next using black or dark blue, paint around the eyes. Fill in the socket area. Then, using the same dark color, paint the mouth with vertical strokes. Add a few horizontal lines at the forehead and you now have a Halloween ghost! This look would go best with a flowing black cape.
There are many more designs that you could try. All you have to do is pick the design that you think will work best for you!
