The creative application of cosmetic paint on the face of a person is termed as face painting. With human skin as your canvass, you can never be too careful with the type of paints you use. That’s why special paints are made exclusively for face painting. And since these paints are water-based, they can be easily washed off. Oils, water colors and acrylic paints are not for face painting and thus, should be avoided. Use of these types of paints on the skin might cause severe hypersensitivity reactions. Face painting has been done since the ancient times for different reasons. Some people do it for religious reasons, some for military purposes and some tribal leaders paint on their faces as a sign of authority and leadership. Now you may ask, “But what if I want to do face painting just for fun? What if I simply want to express myself through face painting? Is there a manual or book on how to do face painting?”

Well if this is your concern, worry no more. Here are some basic tips on how to do face painting. First, find a willing model. You can’t paint properly on an unruly child. You must select someone who wants to work with you and is willing enough to sit still for hours. As we all know, superior creations take time. Beauty cannot be rushed. So be sure that your model knows what to expect.

Second, choose the right kind of paint to use. As we all know, choosing the proper paint to use can be a little tricky. This is because paints specifically made for face painting are difficult to look for and are also a bit expensive. The sets that are cheapest come only in three or four colors. It’s not surprising why you can be tempted to buy those inexpensive acrylic paints instead. But you should never give in to that temptation because acrylics are not made for the skin. They may cause rashes and allergies, especially in people with very sensitive skin. Safety should always come first.

Third, don’t brush. Instead, sponge. The use of brushes on a canvass is fine. But painting on the skin is a little different than painting on a canvass. Using brushes can be too time-consuming – especially if you are covering a big area or putting on one specific color as a base. It can also help to use different sponges for different colors. That way, you wouldn’t have to spend a lot of time washing your sponges every time you use a different color.

Fourth, visualize first what you want to paint. Most people immediately start painting without knowing what exactly it is they want to paint. As a result, they often have to start over and over again. Visualizing your finished product can save you a lot of time and effort. So start with the end in mind.

Fifth, be patient. We may have all heard of the saying Patience is a virtue. Well that applies to face painting as well. When you put on a color, wait for the first coat to dry first before putting on a second one. If you put on the second coat immediately, the colors will mix and the end result can be disastrous.

Sixth, use stencils. If you are a beginner in face painting and you are not very confident with your free hand, you can create stencils in advance. Stencils can guide you in painting so you won’t get paint on unnecessary places. They are also very easy to make. All you need is acetate and a craft knife and you can cut out any design you want.

Seventh, and lastly, have fun and let loose! What’s the point in doing something you don’t enjoy? So take pleasure in every moment you spend face painting and let the inner artist in you shine through.

Face painting is a form of art that can be a fun and exciting way to explore one’s creativity. It can also be an avenue in which your child can express himself. Face painting is one thing that children enjoy doing. In fact, it is so enjoyable, even adults like doing it. This activity has many merits. Not only does it promote creativity and self-expression, it can also be a means of relieving one’s stress. Not only that, it can also be a source of income for you! You can set up a face painting booth at a children’s party and earn while having fun at the same time. After all, what can be more fun than expressing your own individuality so blatantly? Children will surely be lining up to have their faces painted. However, when it comes to designing what to paint, beginners often get stuck. What would the kids want? Well in answer to that question, here are some kids face painting designs for you. Let’s face it – not everyone is a Vincent Van Gogh or a Michael Angelo. But by simply taking the time to read a bit, you can learn to paint designs that children will love.

One popular face painting design is the Tiger. In this design, you will be using primarily the colors yellow and orange. You can mix both colors to achieve the yellow orange hue of a tiger’s skin. Then use black to paint on whiskers and a nose. Just make sure your first coating has already dried before putting on the nose and whiskers or else the paint will smear. You don’t want to have to clean that mess up.

Another well-liked design is the Butterfly. This is a particularly common pick among little girls. Since butterflies come in different colors, you can choose any color for this design. You can also create different wing patterns. Your nose will be the butterfly’s body and the wings can stretch diagonally across the cheek. But when choosing a color combination, keep in mind that the colors that work best together are those that are either near or opposite to each other on the color wheel. For example, pink and blue always look good together. As do yellow and green. Contrasting colors like black and white are also a good combination.

When Halloween comes around, Spidey is also a popular pick -especially among little boys. You will be needing red, black and white. First, sponge your models entire face with red. About three coats will do. However, avoid laying the paint on too thickly or cracking may result later on. Next, paint the eyes white and then paint on Spiderman’s signature black patterns. If you don’t know how to do the patterns, you can always download a copy from the net.

For parties, Clowns are also a common choice. You will need a lot of white paint for this one. The first thing to do is paint the entire face of your model white. Wait for it to dry and then add additional features like two small yellow dots on both cheeks and a bright red nose. A matching neon green afro wig will complete the circus clown look.

These are the top face painting designs that kids love. And what is great about these designs is that they are very easy to do too. You won’t have to wear yourself out painting. In fact, there’s a very good chance that you will have a lot of fun. So what are you waiting for? Try out these designs now and have a blast while doing so.

Whether it’s a Halloween party or a face painting contest your kid is going to attend, a painted face done correctly will really make him stand out from the crowd. There are a variety of designs that you can do, but animal face painting is one of the more popular choices. For one, there are a number of fun animal designs to choose from. And one great thing about animals is that they can really reflect your personality. But just like everything else, there are a few guiding principles which you can follow to improve your skill as a painter. Here are a few tips on how to do animal face painting.

It might seem a bit challenging at first. But really it is not rocket science. Like most things, it is a skill that can be learned. By investing a little time learning how to do it, you will surely learn how to do this in no time. First, in painting animal faces, keep in mind that it protrudes more than a human face. You can create this illusion by playing with light and dark colors. The contrasting colors will really bring forward some features. For example, when you are painting a dog, you can paint the nose in the area of the mouth using a lighter color. Doing so will make it appear snout-like. However, if you want to paint a monkey, you can concentrate more on exaggerating the nose, mouth and eyes. This can be done by using chocolate brown paint to draw on these additional features. Monkeys are in some degree similar to human faces, whether we like it or not, so it won’t be hard to paint a monkey face. Monkeys generally have a more compressed face and bigger features. By using a darker shade of brown on the upper part of your models’ forehead, you can give the illusion of a smaller and more compressed monkey-ish face. Then you can finish it off by putting in a lot of creases in varying shades of brown and orange.

Another thing you should keep in mind is that the nose should be shaped carefully and precisely. Since noses are found in the center of the face, it is usually the first thing that people notice. An irregularly shaped nose will just throw off the entire look. Also picture out precisely what animal you are trying to paint. Different animals also have different noses. For example, if you want to paint a tiger, you can first sponge the nose with yellow paint spreading outward to the cheeks. Next, apply white paint on the skin just below the nose. This will help bring it forward. Then, using black or dark brown paint, apply a straight line following the triangle-like contour at the edge of your nose and color it in.

When it comes to painting animal faces, another thing to remember is that it can show the mood or personality of your model. So before you paint in those remaining details, first think: What emotion do I want my model to convey? What do I want my finished product to look like; a friendly puppy, an angry tiger, or a mischievous monkey? When it comes to art such as face painting, details are vital. They can either make or break your look. But how do you convey emotion? It’s pretty simple. It is all in the eyebrows. If you are going for an angry or menacing look, draw the eyebrows close together forming a V-like pattern. If you want a surprised look, draw them higher on the forehead. And if you want a happy look, draw them a bit apart in an inverted U-shape.

These are only a few tips on how to do animal face painting. Once you get started, you will eventually develop your own style and discover your very own niche for animal painting.

Children have a naturally vivid imagination. They love to play around with their friends – whether real or imaginary. They also love stretching their imagination and creating things. That’s why art is such a great avenue for growth. When birthdays, Halloween or Christmas roll around, kids often love to celebrate this season in their lives with a bit of art. And what better way to do so than by face painting? Every kid would love to get a cheek design painted on their faces. They can have their favorite animal, cartoon or flower designed on their cheek. And since the paint used is water based, they can immediately have it washed off. There are a lot of uncomplicated and simple face painting cheek designs to select from. Here are a couple of suggestions that might work for you. Not only will you be able to connect with your artistic side, this will also make bonding time with your child a lot of fun for both of you.

Before beginning, make sure you have all the supplies you need. This includes sponges, paint brushes of different sizes, face paint, cotton balls and some astringent. Now here comes the hard part, choosing a design. With so many choices to go around, how can one ever decide which to choose? Here are some face painting cheek designs that you can take your pick with.

Butterflies are typically the most popular pick among little girls. There’s just something about the grace and beauty of a butterfly that makes it so well-liked. It is also very easy to paint. You just need a small-sized brush and dark colored paint to draw the butterfly’s body and two antennas on its head. Then using the paint color of your choice, you can paint on the wings. You can also beautify your design some more by adding glitter or stick on gemstones. And there you have it! A beautiful butterfly is born.
The mistletoe is also another well-liked design – especially during the Christmas season. It has been a common practice to hang up mistletoe in the doorway during Christmas time and this perhaps is the reason why people associate mistletoe with Christmas. To paint one, the primary colors you will need are green, red and black. Use a small brush to outline with black the leaves. Then fill it in with green paint. Add three or four small balls in the middle and you now have the perfect mistletoe.

Flowers are also a popular choice among little girls. With so many flower colors and designs to choose from, you can really get creative with this one. First, pick what flower you want to paint and draw an outline of it. This will serve as your guide. Next, choose a color. One that is not too dark or too light. For example, if you want pink flowers chose a medium tone of pink. Once you fill in your outline, you can use a darker shade of pink to create shadows and pale yellow or white to highlight details.

There are a lot of other great ideas for face painting cheek designs, but these are the most popular. You can try painting these designs yourself and learn more as you go along.

The first face painting was done hundreds of years ago by American Indians. Whenever they would go hunting, they always adorned themselves with paint and tattoos. During war time, the males in the tribe would also have their face and bodies painted in order to scare off their enemies. It was part of their strategy. Tribal leaders also had their own special designs painted on their faces to signify their authority and leadership. Body face painting has been around a long time. And it has evolved much over the years.

Hundreds of years ago, before face paint ever came into existence; paint was made by crushing and pulverizing clay or stones. The crushed pieces would be then mixed with either animal fat or oil. To produce various colors, different types of plants would be used. You had to be careful in choosing which plants to use because different plants produced different colors. Either the roots would be ground and mixed with oil, or the leaves would be boiled in water, dried and then crushed to produce fine powder which is then mixed with oil. Compared to our ancestors, we have it pretty easy. All we have to do is buy face paint and we are good to go. We are fortunate because it is now so much easier to acquire the materials needed for face painting. You can find everything you need at just the click of your finger.

Over the years, face painting has evolved. If before it was used for camouflage during warfare or tribal recognition, now it is done more for fun and recreation. Face painting has now become a popular activity for children. Psychologists consider this a good thing since it is a way for them to express themselves and to get in touch with their creative side. Face painting can be an avenue for children to express through art what they cannot verbalize. But this activity is not limited to children only. Many adults too now engage in face painting as a form of recreation. Some have even made a career out of it. Events like children’s parties and Halloween are an excellent opportunity to showcase your skills in face painting. As the primary face painter in affairs like this, you should be creative and inventive enough to make fun and attractive designs. If you do this, you will surely never run out of clients.

Whatever one’s stature in life may be, everybody loves to have their face painted. Because no matter how ordinary or commonplace you think you are, within each soul lays an untamed spirit. Being painted as a wild tiger or a tempestuous witch gives us the opportunity to set this spirit free – if even just for a few hours. After all, one great thing about face paint is that it easily washes off with water. Who would not want to break free from everyday routine once in a while? If you have not tried face painting, try it now. Who knows? You may discover something about yourself you never thought existed.

Face painting has become be a huge fad right now. And clown face painting is one of the more popular choices. Clown face painting has gained its popularity primarily through numerous circus and kid party appearances. This is why the demand for more clown face painting designs has been on a steady rise. Designs can range from simple to complex. But if you are a beginner in the art of face painting, here are some easy to do designs that you can follow.

The typical clown face is usually just a white face with a red button nose. But clown face designs have gotten more complex and creative over the years. But how do you start? First, you need face paint. Don’t use acrylics or oils. They might cause hypersensitivity reactions, especially in people with very sensitive skin. Use paint made specifically for the face. Face paints are usually water-based making them easy to remove and they dry quickly. So you will not have to wait forever to apply your next coat. You will also need sponges, brushes of different sizes, tissues, cotton, water and soap. Next, visualize the clown face you want to paint. Beginning with the end in mind can make you work more efficiently since you won’t have to constantly stop and re-do your work.

When you have already prepared everything and visualized what you want to achieve, you are now ready to start painting. First, choose a bright red color to paint a red circle on the nose and distended smiling lips. Clown lips are generally exaggerated so make it much bigger, going around the lips and spreading towards the cheeks. Then outline the eyes and the skin on the outer portion of the lips with white. The stark white color will really make the other features stand out. Color in the eye area with bright yellow and add pink circles on the cheeks. Add in a bright pink afro wig to complete the look. Now, you have completed your first clown face design!

A clown face is actually pretty simple to paint, especially if you stick to the basic design. If you desire something more complex, it is up to you to make your own revisions. For instance, clown noses do not always have to be red. Other colors can also be utilized. For your second design, you can use yellow or green. Just be sure to stick to bright happy colors so your clown will not end up looking like something out of a horror movie. Black can also be used as long as you paint only at the tip of the nose. Also, instead of painting on wide lips, you can draw a heart on the lips instead. The eyebrows should be exaggerated so that they will really stand out. Draw a high curve above each eye using black paint. Then color them in using bright blue. For the cheeks, you can use glitter instead of paint for variety. Then put on a bright blue wig to complete the look.

For your third design, just repeat the initial instructions given in the first two designs. And then vary the colors and design. For example, the eyebrows can be drawn differently each time. You can manipulate the angles to create different looks. The color combinations can also be played with. As with the shapes you paint on the cheeks.

There are many more ways to manipulate your clown face designs to make them more unique and interesting. It is up to you how you want your end product to look. So feel free to let loose your creative instincts and paint away!

When Halloween rolls around, you can be sure that you will find kids in different costumes traversing the streets. And what better way to top off your Halloween costume than with one-of-a-kind Halloween face painting designs? A unique and creative face painting job can be instrumental in completing your look. It can either make or break your costume.

There are a variety of styles and techniques in face painting. The trick is to decide what type of look you want to achieve. Is it the scary, bloody look of a long dead zombie or the bare white-faced look of a scary female character? Or maybe you want to dress up as your favorite superhero – Spiderman and Batman are popular picks. Or you could always go for the glammed up look of a beautiful fairy. In choosing your Halloween face paint designs, bear in mind that it should always go together with your costume. Or else you will end looking out of sorts.

Witches have become synonymous with Halloween. According to old folk tales, Halloween symbolizes the beginning and the end of the year of the witches. It is supposed to be the best time to contact the “undead” because during this time, the barrier between the underworld and the earth is open. So it is no surprise that we see little witches running around during trick or treat. But how do we start painting? First, use a sponge to apply white paint all over the face. Avoid laying it on too thickly at one time or this will result in cracking later on. The trick here is to apply multiple coats if you want a thicker layer. After the white paint has dried, apply a layer of green paint. This will give you a more ghoulish and scary look. Next use a brush to outline the eyes, eyebrows and lips with black paint and color them in. Then you can add spiders, cobwebs or a wart or two on the nose or face to complete the look. Top it off with a black pointy hat and a long cape and you are good to go trick or treating.

However, if you want to be more grotesque and gruesome you can always go as the “undead” or Frankenstein. Here, you will need to add realistic scars and wounds. First, sponge your entire face with white paint followed with green. Green is an excellent color if you want to appear scarier looking. To create a fake scar or wound, use a medium sized brush and red paint to draw it on. Black can be used to draw on your stitches. Then just throw on raggedy looking clothes and you are good to go.

Another popular Halloween character is the ghost. You can create this look by painting your entire face white. The lips can be done in a pale blue color. Do not try shades like orange and red because they are considered “warm colors”. And when you are going as a ghost, you do not want to look alive. You would want to look dead. Next using black or dark blue, paint around the eyes. Fill in the socket area. Then, using the same dark color, paint the mouth with vertical strokes. Add a few horizontal lines at the forehead and you now have a Halloween ghost! This look would go best with a flowing black cape.

There are many more designs that you could try. All you have to do is pick the design that you think will work best for you!
